Matt Sandahl - Composer
Matt Sandahl (b. 1991) is a Brooklyn-based composer, scholar, and educator. He received his masters at UC Berkeley, and his B.M. at Purchase Conservatory at SUNY, where he studied under Suzanne Farrin, Du Yun, and Huang Ruo. He is currently a Graduate Fellow at CUNY Graduate Center, where he studied with Jay Eckardt and Suzanne Farrin. He works as a teaching fellow and adjunct lecturer at Brooklyn College. Collaborators have included Longleash trio, Mivos Quartet, Kyle Bruckman, Contemporaneous, Eco Ensemble, Dana Saul, Maria Hadge, Jacob Sachs Mishalanie, and others.
Matt’s work is animated by the fragmentary, the intimate, the surreal, and the nostalgic. He revels in ambiguous moods, absurd humor, and difficult-to-define emotions. His enduring obsessions include the expressionist Webern, post-war Euromodernist cinema, alternative comedy, and neo-pragmatist philosophy.
